ESSENTIALS: Leogang

ESSENTIALS: Leogang

The track, the weather, the schedule, who’s at the top and who’s fighting their way back; check out our guide to UCI DH World Cup #3 in Leogang, Austria, taking place this weekend.

The debate over the Leogang track has raged on for many years and is part of a bigger discussion on where downhill tracks are headed in the future. The Leogang track is located within a bike park and offers limited technicality. What it does offer in exchange is big jumps, huge berms, and some of the highest speeds all year. Thankfully for the fans there is one thing that isn’t up for debate; Leogang’s ability to produce tight times and action packed race days. Check out last year's track below with Luca Shaw.

Riders will get their first look at the track on Thursday, with practice taking place on Friday, qualifying Saturday and the finals on Sunday. Past years at Leogang have presented a mix of challenging weather conditions for the riders and this weekend looks to be the same with an array of thunderstorms predicted throughout the weekend.

After last weekend's hectic women's race full of crashes, snapped chains, and drama, Rachel Atherton and Tahnée Seagrave are both within 50 points of Myriam Nicole in the championship. With Atherton and Seagrave both having won here in the past Nicole will have to battle hard to retain her leaders jersey this weekend.

The ups and downs thus far of the Men’s championship have left us with an incredibly tight points chase early on. After podium performances in Scotland from Troy Brosnan and Loris Vergier they are now both less than 10 points from the coveted leaders jersey. After a devastating puncture at round 2 Luca Shaw has fallen back to 6th in the overall but with his impressive form of late and only a 47 point deficit, it seems anything is possible for the Syndicate rider! Live coverage of the race will begin at 12:30 CEST live on Red Bull TV.
