Match Box

The ramped cleat box offers easy front and rear pedal entry and mud shedding. A Race Zone setback on the cleat track allows the cleat to be positioned further toward the heel for added control and stability when descending.

Match Compound

Our mid-friction rubber compound (MC1) allows for easy pedal entry and exit and is hard enough to hold up to wear and tear. The radial lug pattern around the cleat box is designed to provide smooth release from the pedal body.

Match Outsole

The tread pattern is designed for traction off the bike. Directionally angled and spaced toe and heel lugs offer traction for hiking up or down steep terrain. The ramped toe provides walkability on steep terrain.

I have the shoes like

"I have the shoes like these that aren’t clip in style and they are great. Very comfortable. I wear an orthotic inside my shoes and they feel great. The toe box is very wide I find and my feet can breathe. Lol. These shoes fit very similar and thus I like them So far. Only thing is my pedal has different shimano spd cleats I guess because they don’t fit the ones that these shoes come with. Luckily my peddles came with extra ones that do fit. So I changed them out. I feel that the cleats clip in nicely. It’s taken a few rides to get used to them but that’s just me I think. I’m new to clippless on mtn bikes."

I routinely ride XC and

"I routinely ride XC and usually wear XC clipless shoes. ACA and NICA race weekends are an incredible experience as a coach, but the long days can be hard on the feet. These shoes greatly reduce foot fatigue when balancing riding and walking. They work great with my SPDs and have great pedal engagement and feel. Highly recommend are a primary shoe or as a backup when comfort comes first."

Plenty stiff to avoid hot

"Plenty stiff to avoid hot spots or sore feet but flexible enough to walk comfortably. Nice hefty shoe strings. Came with 2 pairs, white & purple. Fit is fairly true to size but would have went up half a size if they had been available. All that being said I never notice them while I’m riding so I guess that’s exactly what you want. They work well clipped in and just as solid on flat side of pedals. (I prefer to go unclipped on sandy dirt roads) I can ride either way with confidence. Speedy shipping as well. Ordered on a Friday, received them on Tuesday. I would absolutely buy them again!"

I do like the fit

"I do like the fit of the shoes and really like that Crankbrothers has shoes in my size. What I don't like are the little grippers on the heal cup near the achilles heel. They gave me blisters and not sure how that won't continue."

Q&A

does it work to use these shoes at flats to?: Hi Fritz, Thanks for your interest in the shoes. We do not recommend using the Mallet shoes on flat pedals for technical trail riding. Grip will be sufficient enough for easy cruising on streets and smooth trails. However, the cleat may be protruding a bit from the bottom of the shoe depending on the shim stack height, and this will interfere with your grip on the pedal. There is also less surface area of tread rubber actually contacting the pedal due to the cutout for the cleat track. Cheers, Crankbrothers Rider Support
Can the Mallet Clip In Shoes be effective for non clip in pedals also?: Hi John, thanks for the question. The Mallet shoe can work on flat pedals, though it will not be effective to do so on actual rough terrain and mountain trails. The cleat will protrude slightly from the bottom of shoe, and will contact the flat pedal body, which will interfere a bit with the overall grip of the shoe on the pedal. It will be sufficient enough grip for easy cruising on smooth surfaces, but not much beyond that. Removing the cleats completely will help to increase the grip on flat pedals.
